Growing Better in the New Year

Like the plants I write about, I believe we all strive to grow and thrive in any environment in which we find ourselves. Sometimes we manage it sometimes we don’t. For the past couple of years a global pandemic has highlighted our fragility within the ecosystem we inhabit. Our resilience and self reflection during this time has encouraged many of us to seek new ways of living, and to find ways to return to values and lifeways we may have lost in pursuits detrimental our well being.

Moving on

The pandemic has caused people to be shaken up like dice in a game. Many have landed on boards which say: move to the country, lose employment, change employment, close business, change partners, or morn loved ones. The challenge is to use our free will to turn each situation in which we find ourselves into a positive one while moving through physical, emotional, and spiritual upheavals.

The quickening of these life events is the phenomenon which has caused rapid individual and social growth, and a rise in biolpilia.

*biophilia: [noun] a hypothetical human tendency to interact or be closely associated with other forms of life in nature.

Animal shelters were emptied, and plants flew off the shelves as we insulated ourselves with nature. Our place as an integral part of nature is continuously ratified. Floods, fires and other natural disasters have raised questions about our part in their cause.

It’s all in you

The earth contains all the minerals our bodies need, and our bodies are composed mostly of water. If the earth is sick then we become more vulnerable to bacteria and viruses. Let us be mindful and respectful of, as the indigenous people say, all our relations.

This year is a growing year, a time to continue to forge ahead with positive changes. I will continue to share the gifts of wellness in plant based knowledge. Each of us will find what works for us.

What will your contribution be? It does not have to be a resolution, but it does have to change your life for the better. Know and believe that effort and perseverance goes a long way. Let’s grow together. The sages say that all living things are connected, and the world’s problems stem from not being able to feel this connection.
